Vision Keeper 2000

Evanston Ecumenical Action Council (EEAC)

Brother Harold F. Bailey

Harold Bailey is a native Evanstonian and has been a member of Bethel AME Church since his youth. His late father, Edward F. Bailey, is a founding member of the church. Harold is a product of Evanston Township High School and still has fond memories of his youthful days at the school. After graduation, Harold joined the US Army and served his country admirably.
He has appreciated his residence in Evanston over the years, and has participated in various civic and community activities. Harold has made himself available for the small details that are so often taken for granted and overlooked. He has always been free with his time and talent.
Harold Bailey is the quiet Mr. Bethel! He is called upon by every component of the membership to assist them in fulfilling their goals. He always stands ready to add his energy to progress the work of Jesus Christ. He is a saintly person with a tremendous temperament for the advancement of the kingdom of God. Harold stands tall, as an example of an individual whose thrust is to complete the joy of Jesus! His church family admires his humility and how receptive he is in lending his talents.
He is a member of the Board of Stewards and serves as the Vice Chair of the Stewardship and Finance Committee, member of the Men's Chorus, the Adult Ensemble Choir, the Visitation and Concern Ministry and Bethel's representative to EEAC. Most of all, he is the person that the congregation calls upon to transport them to their various meetings and conferences. The youth especially appreciates the willingness of “Mr. Bailey” to attend their functions even when it requires him to drive long distances and spend the night.
For the past several years, Harold is the behind the scene person in the success of our Prison Ministry. He drives children from the inner most part of our community to visit their moms in various Illinois prisons. Driving is just a small part of what he does. He takes them on picnics, to ball games and delivers seasonal gifts throughout the year. He also assists in delivering toiletries to Cook County Jail and Dwight Prison.
Harold is a wonderful father of three children and four charming and beautiful grandchildren who he cherishes and refers to them as his “Gang.” Harold retired from Willett Laidlaw Transportation Company a year ago, and the church has absorbed most of his newfound time.
Harold is not a stranger to anyone. This man of God will surely demonstrate, in a brief moment with him, a kind word, and a gentleness that will not be forgotten. He lives his life so that others may see his good works and give all glory to our God. A true Vision Keeper!
